Songs of the Month — August 2011

I have decided to begin a new segment: songs of the month. Looking at some of the above covers you may be wondering why songs that were not released this month are displayed. Well, this can be explained by this segment’s subtitle: Songs Stuck In My Head This Month. Therefore, it is likely that the songs of the month are not even from this year. I can’t explain why I begin to crave songs I have heard countless times over, I just do, and so I will post them up in this segment. There’s a large amount this month, but usually I have only around three songs stuck in my head for a month. Sometimes songs get stuck in my head for months on end though (Mizuki Nana’s “Koi no Yokushiryoku” was stuck in my head for like six months). Anyway, let the Songs of the Month awards for August commence!!

愛の弾丸 (Ai no Dangan) — Berryz Koubou
Originally I thought this song was pretty decent, but after it began constantly replaying in my head I have grown to like this song very much. It’s catchy, and I don’t know why. I still love the line distribution.

夏ダカラ! (Natsu Dakara!) — Buono!
This song gets better and better the more I listen to it. It really does capture the whole summer feel, and it let me ride out the last few days of summer with relatively little anxiety. It’s not your conventional Buono! song, but it’s definitely a candidate for one of the better songs of the year. Can’t wait to make that list come December.

oveRtaKerS feat. RYUICHI KAWAMURA ~ SUGIZO — m.o.v.e
Instrumentally this song is freakin’ cool. I really loved the 「oveRtaKerS SPIRIT」 album because the techno/electronica m.o.v.e has to be my favorite. This is definitely a song to play really loudly. If you were to choose songs to go deft to the 「oveRtaKerS SPIRIT」 album has some good contenders, which is why the next song also gets mentioned.

SAKULA — m.o.v.e
A nice long 6:55 song. “SAKULA” is probably the best song on the 「oveRtaKerS SPIRIT」 next to “OveRtaKerS”. Again, it’s musically awesome, and another song to listen to with the volume on full blast (NOTE: don’t actually do that. That’s going to hurt your ears and cause long-term hearing loss, probably, maybe).

みらくるハッピーディ (Miracle Happy Day) — Toyosaki Aki (as Lisa)
“Let’s go!” “Sotto Sotto soba ni imasu/soyokaze no youni…” Quite a contrast from the last two songs. The reason this song has been stuck in my head is because I recently picked up on watching anime again after a few years. This song is the ending theme to Seiken no Blacsmith, and as soon as I heard it I knew I had to hear the full version. It’s so…happy! Like seriously, you can’t frown when listening to this song! It makes me giggle! GIGGLE! And that chorus is so freakin’ catchy. I could listen to this for days on end. Haha.

My favorite MELL song has been making its way back into my head. The song was released back in 2009 as the opening theme to the anime of the same name, and as with most anime themes by legitimate artists, the song is too good for the show. Haha. Anyway, I’m sure there’s a good portion of the MELL or I’ve Sound fanbase that hates this song for MELL’s indecipherable Engrish, but that’s part of why I like the song. Haha. I like Engrish. It sounds nice…is that weird? XD

Stay Gold — Mizuki Nana
So, I said that this song was pretty meh in the 「純潔パラドックス (Junketsu Paradox)」 review. I kind of take that back. Nana’s vocals are just too impressive to pass up, and I’ve found myself listening to this song over and over. It’s not as good as the other two songs on the single, but it’s still a damn good song. I kind of knew this would happen. I mean, it’s Nana. Eventually I’m going to love whatever song she bangs out regardless of how much I hate it initially; perfect example: “Mysterion”. That’s song’s a mess in every way, but I grew to love it because it’s Nana. I don’t care if that’s biased. I know it is, but I can’t help it! Oh! Back to “Stay Gold”: I had a dream about it. Yeah. I was singing the song in my dream, perfect lyrics and all. I have a lot of dreams like that. What was another song in my dreams…Oh! “Omakase Guardian” by Guardians4 (random, I know), and “Orchestral Fantasia”, again by Nana. But anyway, “Stay Gold” is a great song.
